NYC Subway Lines on Twitter!
If you haven’t been sold on Twitter yet… you will be now. Last night I turn on my TV and NY1 is on (per usual) I see a 20 second spot where they announce that the MTA is now twittering updates for each subway line. This morning I go to the new site www.twitter.511nyc.org and sign up for my own line (the glorious N/R/W). Less than 30 seconds later a friend tweets “Fire trucks surrounding 4/5 wall st station and entrances closed. Anyone know what’s up?” perfectly timed for me to check the site and lo and behold @511ny456 had tweeted “Due to Downed wires at Wall St, Both Dirctns # 4 & 5 Lines service suspended btw Nevins St Sta (Brooklyn) and Bro… tinyurl.com/ny511.” Look at that! Less than one minute into my initial visit and this site is already proven to be useful (and quelled any panic that may have ensued from fire trucks downtown).
