The Legacy of Michael Jackson
There’s been a lot of discussion about Michael’s legacy and how it’s affected by the allegations of child molestation and the general oddity of his later years… dunno how I feel about it, but the guys in this clip make some brilliant points.
I mean – it’s pretty f’ed up if he really did it, but then again, do the sins he may have committed cancel out the joy he brought into the world? I was randomly flipping channels, stopped on Tavis Smiley and got stuck on it, because his two guests – Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, and Dr. Cornel West were rocking this interview about what he meant to the world and specifically, how much he meant to the African American community.
I don’t think I agree about the way they chracterize Elvis, but man, for a kid who grew up thinking of Michael Jackson as a fairly politically and even racially neutral dude, this explanation of his legacy was eye opening.

Thank you for posting this.
Both of these guys are fascinating to listen to (I especially admire Dr. West for a variety of reasons/arguments he’s made in the past). It’s really nice to see Jackson’s contributions discussed in a real and sane, yet non-salacious way.
MJ rules!
