Tiiiime is on my side, yes it is.

rescue-time

Last night I was attending a meeting for which I had to take notes and I was taking aforementioned notes on a computer that was connected to the interwebs. Bad idea? Probably. I probably shouldn’t admit that I was reading celeb gossip and news articles, but I was. The question of our generation is definitely WHAT DO I DO WITH ALL THIS MEDIA!?!?! ahh. Anyway, I came across this article from the times highlighting several programs that will track where you go on the internet and help with time management! I’m going to start off slow with graphing and then move into blocking time wasting sites (I quit Perez Hilton cold turkey about a month ago and I feel awesome about it). Although I can’t really promise that I’ll never go back… or like the author that I won’t find something else to do.

Though blocking time-sucking Web sites did keep me from goofing off on my computer, I found that my brain quickly compensated by wasting time in other ways: As I’m writing this paragraph, for example, I’m also eating a peach. But not just eating it without thinking — I’ve been using a paring knife to try to cut perfectly cubical pieces to pop into my mouth.

This morning I signed up for RescueTime and in a few days should have a very pretty graph of my internet actions which I may or may not share with you. (One gross poptenner asked me if they track ALL the websites you go to… ew, and I don’t know the answer to that yet). I’ll be back next week with results!! Let me know if you do it too!

I was that “gross” poptenner, and that’s not actually what I was referring to! I was just thinking about whether I would be willing to expose my procrastination tendencies to the light of day… I wasn’t even thinking about the darker sides of a man’s soul (and or habits) until you brought it up!

    Dirty bird.

    riiiiiight chris. whatever you say…

um, Hawkes, i love the paragraph that you posted from the article.

  4. Man oh man! I feel like that scene in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure where Ted lifts his hand towards Joan of Arc, who slowly and rapturously takes it!

I hope this helps my horrible addiction to the world wide web (of lies and deception)!

P.S. Bill and Ted’s moment is way more memorable than the Michelangelo they base it on.
