A Public Service Announcement
Foreign PSAs make me want to die. You may recall a few years back when these Canadian PSAs for workplace safety were all over the internet. Terrifying videos of people slipping and falling at work only to end up severely mangled ruined my day several days in a row. I for one will never be the same and will be infinitely more careful when carrying huge pots full of boiling stuff (like I do, often). So I’m reading the Daily Mail the other day and I scroll down to the bottom and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD WHAT IS THAT!!!!!!!
First, I’m just going to paste a bunch of these pictures…
I’m really sorry. I totally get that falls in the workplace are expensive and inconvenient and at times awful. However, these make me terrified to walk anywhere or do anything! The HSA has good intentions of course:
Slips, trips and falls from height can all have serious consequences. Everyone can do more to ensure that their workplace becomes a safer environment. The effects of slips, trips and falls at work are far reaching, both for those involved, their families and the industries they work in. The cost to society alone is in the order of £800 million per year. The Shattered Lives Campaign website is here to help raise awareness, provide guidance and encourage employers and employees to take action to help reduce the risk of a slip, trip or fall at work.
Color me terrified guys, I’ll try to be more careful.
Similarly, remember being in driver’s ed and they made you watch “Red Asphalt?” A decidedly not-that-graphic movie of brains being splattered on the highway? The United Kingdom has out done it by about a million percent:
I actually wish I hadn’t just watched that again.
American PSAs are less striking, but they’re getting better. Especially those geared towards anti-smoking. I officially quit after the brain blood stroke one, the lady missing fingertips didn’t do it for me. What do you guys think? Do we need to be scared out of our minds to be more careful? I 100% agree with the law that made it illegal to text and drive, but are people actually abiding by it?
I feel like I’ve written about this before, but I can’t get over it! That’s the point though, I’m scared of everything now and feel the need to share these warnings with you! Unless of course something ridiculous happens like THIS which just proves that the world is inherently unsafe, I couldn’t have warned you about that one.

That video is terrifying!
That video was awful! Also considering I always have nightmares about car crashes. But I am never texting and driving again.. but I wish everyone else would also!
The nub finger woman didn’t frighten me into quitting smoking at all. In fact, all it did was make me revel in the fact that there are people out there that are far dumber than I am. AND, it made me come to the (brilliant) conclusion that only stupid people get cancer.
So, in the same line of thinking, I’ll never get into an accident because I’m neither British nor Canadian. And THANK GOD I never exercise, which means I’ll never get hit by a plane.
Good work Hawkes.
