Friday Round Up!

Happy Oscar Friday Pop-tenners! How The Market is closed on Good Friday and not on Oscar Friday is totally beyond me! We need time to prepare! Get fancy dresses, bottles of champagne for drinkin’ and bottles of shampoo for acceptance speech practicin’! I won a scented candle in Oscar Bingo last year and I’ve already picked my favorite for “Sound Design” this year so I’m pretty much a shoe-in for the pool! This has nothing to do with the round up, just in general, I love the Oscars! (!)

ahem.

1. In other competition news, a bunch of white girls won the “Sprite Step-off” and everyone is pissed. So pissed that Coca-Cola (Sprite’s parent company) announced that there was, after all that, a scoring error and the prize is now shared between first and second place! I don’t know much about stepping (besides the fact that it’s awesome) but the white girls based their routine on THE MATRIX, they should have been immediately disqualified for a pop-culture reference fail and we  could have avoided this. The second place team based their routine on Law & Order, winners in my book.

2. Watch this.

3. Also watch this. It’s one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen. If you watching it for a minute and the song is hurting your sensitive ears please don’t leave with out skipping to the last half. It gets bizarre, like really bizarre.

4. Downer of the week. A South Korean couple let their REAL LIFE baby die because they were too busy taking care of their VIRTUAL baby in an internet cafe. Can you even imagine this? I know a lot more about virtual worlds than the average Joe (by default) and I cannot at all understand this. Leaving an infant alone all night! Not bothering to feed it! Shameful and terrible.

5. I’ve been thinking a lot about infomercials recently and don’t you think that THIS looks like John Edwards? Obviously by the video name I’m not the only one. Do you think they made this when he still had a chance of being an American icon?

6. Gail Simmons is only 33! What am I doing with my life? (A: nothing)

7. Please see #6 for a subtle reference to my Art History degree, which has proved useful today (for the first time) because of this (the Caravaggios! I’m dying)

8. News Flash: There is no way I’m making it to 10

9. Speaking of the oscars NYMag put together an awesome montage of “thank yous” to get you in the moooood. You can see it HERE.

10. Lots of videos this week! So here’s a picture (Julia, thank you for your help this week!)
