The Situation Will Make $5Million Dollars in 2010

So the news broke yesterday that Mike “The Situation” is set to make around $5 million dollars this year. FIVE MIIIILLION DOLLARS! People are pissed. I literally had several people write on their facebook pages: THIS IS WHAT’S WRONG WITH AMERICA! Ummm. No. THIS is what’s wrong with America. Some dude from New Jersey who happens to be hilarious making money off of a reality tv show and guest appearances at clubs? Can’t we just say, well good for that guy! It’s not like the money that MTV is paying him is coming out of their “give to sick kids” budget, or that club promoters are paying him the money that they had set aside for Pakistan flood relief. In a small (microeconomic?) way, The Sitch is supporting clubs, their workers, MTV and their reality staff, who no doubt gets better advertisers, so more people need better ads, more people will buy the stuff they’re advertising, more journalists will cry about how it isn’t fair.

I can’t stand the argument that “hard working people don’t have any money and this guy has millions.” Who says he doesn’t work hard? Who are you to judge how someone makes their money? He’s not doing anything illegal and he’s not hurting anyone. So do yourself a favor, join the IFF and just watch the show, it’s really good.

He’s not going to save the world, but who cares. He makes me laugh. He’s a dude who made millions of dollars being himself on tv, I can’t hate.

From People:

The abs-flaunting Sorrentino is raking in close to $60,000 per episode in salary, and between $15,000 and $50,000 per event for appearances. He also has endorsement deals with Vitaminwater, Reebok and an unnamed vodka brand; will front a clothing line with Dilligaf and a line of chewable supplements with GNC; has released his own fitness video; and has partnered with Gotham Books to write his autobiography.

Oh, and he also has a “GTL” app and a rap song on iTunes, and has been in talks regarding several big-screen projects.

Awesome.
