Out wandering the desert of ignorance- 3pm last Tuesday at work- I chanced upon the following. I don’t know where the train of thought came from or was headed. Still it led me, as all thought-trains invariably do, to Wikipedia. And Wikipedia, with no show of effort or strain, answered one of the Great Questions.
What came first, the chicken or the egg?
The egg you dumbasses.
“Species change over time in the process of evolution. Since DNA can only be modified before birth, a mutation must have taken place at conception or within an egg such that an animal similar to a chicken, but not a chicken, laid the first chicken egg.”
(Bonus points if you mention that the first chicken most likely came out of a red jungle fowl’s vagina.)
Got it?
I thought I did too. I must have vulgarly flexed my new knowledge at a bunch of friends, in that ‘if-my-penis-isn’t-bigger-than-yours-surely-my-brain-is’ kind of way. Later I told my fiancée and she asked me to actually show her the article. Well… it seems that in my ADD, I only skimmed one tiny section of the larger article.
It’s pretty fascinating stuff. And boy will it make for scintillating bar talk.
Pick up all the fly honeys with this nugget of knowledge.
