Since East of Eden is the #1 all-time best novel for at least half of the PopTen staff, I thought posting this was appropriate.
It looks like Oprah’s resurrection of the novel gave Hollywood the necessary push, and now we’re off to the races with a new adaptation! The creative team looks really promising- the director of HBO’s “John Adams” mini series is at the helm, and the adaptation is being written by the guy who adapted “Atonement” (which was probably a good movie unless you read the incredible novel two days before watching it– d’oh ‘doh!) The movie will be produced by Brian Grazer, Jonathan Sanger and Ed Albert.
I’m reticent to watch it, as I don’t want to forever envision Martin Lawrence and Hurley from Lost as Adam and Charles Trask. (No definite casting decisions have been made, but who else?) Still, it’ll be damn tempting once its on the big screen.
The full article, from our SXSW buddy Neil Miller at Film School Rejects, is here.
1) That’s awesome news, if only because it will get me to read the book again
and
2) Tom Greene as Caleb, anyone? I smell Comeback.

I am reading the book again. and if they leave the first half of the story off I will punchacize their face.
