If you know the name of the man in the photo above, you’re way ahead of me.
It’s funny, ever since Clear Channel killed the radio, it’s been easy for me to dive into the internet to feed my indie rock & pop jonesing… but not hip-hop. It’s easy for me to listen to twenty seconds of a Destroyer or TV On the Radio song and know I’m going to love their song, possibly their album. Hip Hop- it’s never a guarantee. And the fact that 99% of commercial hip hop sounds like garbage to me doesn’t help either. I do love hip hop, and I used to know hip hop, but the overabundance these days makes things hard.
It’s terribly sad that I recognize only half of the names in I Guess I’m Floating’s Top Ten Hip Hop 2008.
This post is a cry for help.
However, in case you don’t know I Guess I’m Floating, it’s my favorite music blog by far and definitely worth checking out.
Their top ten hip hop albums, link and list, after the jump:
10. Theo – The Birth
9. Blue Sky Black Death – Jean Grae – The Evil Jeanius
8. The Knux – Remind Me In Three Days
7. L’il Wayne – Tha Carter III (#7! These guys have cojones!)
6. Keak da Sneak – Deified
5. Immortal Technique – The Third World
4. Nas – Untitled
3. GZA – Pro Tools
2. T.I. – Paper Trail
1. Elzhi – The Preface (His photo above.)
I wish I was writing with insight…but it’s more a shared sympathy. I’ve been lazy, and I just spent the last 30min (at work) reading “i guess i’m floating”.
Downloading Elzhi as we speak.
