The entire premise of the show is to make trivial moments in real life become unbelievable in slow motion. The format (unfortunately) is more that of Mythbusters where they setup each shot for 10 minutes before you get to see it. I wish they had taken a bit more from things like Baraka or Microcosmos. Instead of voiceovers that inform us to what is happening we would hear Sigur Ros. All the filler time where they explain things would just be visualizations taken directly from a new Macbook. There is no educational value, but it would be the most entrancing show on television. At the moment it still caters to the stoner crowd, but not as directly as it could.
I keep on wondering what it must have been like to be at the pitch session where Discovery heard about this idea for the first time. Basically, a couple of guys went into a meeting with some executives. They show 3 unbelievable slow motion shots. They look up and say, “That’s the entire show”. The execs immediately throw all the money they have at they guys’ faces (or at least that’s what I imagine happened).
You can see it late at night on the Discovery Channel. More amazing slow motion footage after the jump.
