Choosing an Email Address (a PSA)

Though many of our lovely readership are fellow geeks, we at Popten like to recognize those that aren’t always early adopters- and help whenever possible. This public service announcement is brought to you by the fine folks at The Oatmeal.

First impressions are hard to break. And more and more these days, our first impression of someone isn’t their face, breath or unwieldy mole- it’s their email address. Which many of you might think is more or less invisible. And many of us know couldn’t be further from the truth.

Your email address speaks volumes about you. And not just the fact that you chose “2hot4upapi212” as your address. Rather, it’s the second half that counts. This graphic should help. And it’s all true. It’s exactly how you’re seen on the internet, grandpabilly@aol.com.

It comes down to this: at least get a Gmail address. Please. If nothing else, Gmail users are proven to be younger, richer and better in bed. And that’s a hell of a first impression.
